Nursery & Preschool (Ages 2–4)

Our Nursery & Preschool offers a stimulating and caring environment where children develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning. Through high-quality play-based experiences, skilled teaching and strong partnerships with families, we provide the foundations for a successful start to school.

Children can join us from the age of two, and we work closely with families to ensure a positive and seamless transition into school life.

Starting Reception

Many of our Nursery children continue their educational journey with us in Reception, and we also warmly welcome families joining Hurdsfield for the first time.

Our Reception class provides a rich Early Years curriculum that combines exploration, creativity, outdoor learning and high-quality teaching. We place great importance on helping every child feel happy, safe and confident from their very first day.

During the summer term, children and parents are invited to take part in a range of transition activities designed to support a smooth and successful start to school.

Applying for a Reception Place

Applications for Reception places must be submitted through Cheshire East Council.

Reception Admissions Criteria

Cheshire East Council applies the following criteria, in order of priority:

1. Children who are in local authority care or who were previously in care.
2. Children with a sibling already attending the school (up to and including Year 5) who will remain on roll in the following academic year. This includes foster, adopted, step and half siblings living in the same household.
3. Children living within the school's catchment area.
4. Children attending a designated feeder school (where applicable).
5. Children living nearest to the school, measured in a straight line using the National Property Gazetteer.

We offer Stay and Play sessions for all new Nursery and Preschool children to help them become familiar with their new environment and to ensure they feel happy and settled before they start.

In-Year Applications - moving from another school to Hurdsfield

There are times when it is appropriate for a child to move schools, such as moving house.

In such circumstances, it is important that parents/carers look at available pupil places at the schools in the area as the closest school may not have a space in the desired year group.
